Out of Office: Our Takeaways
The Meor team headed along to the Out of Office Marketing Conference 2026 in Newquay last week. A whole day of sharp talks, honest conversations and ideas that challenge how we work. Here’s what stood out.
1. Solve Real Problems to Build Authentic Brands (Ollie, Lead Designer)
One of the most powerful lessons came from Yeti’s collaboration with a salmon hatchery. Instead of starting with the brand itself, Yeti identified a real problem, the need to keep river samples at a steady temperature during transport, and offered a solution with their coolers. This approach of embedding your brand in a culture by solving genuine challenges is a game-changer. At Meor, we believe that brands must first understand the communities they want to serve and then step in as problem solvers, not just promoters.
2. Community and Authenticity Trump Perfection (Daisy, Social Media Assistant)
The strongest brands aren’t built by slick marketing alone; they’re built by people who truly care about their community and stay authentic to their purpose. A quote that resonated with me was: “How would you show up for a friend?” Treating customers like friends rather than transactions naturally elevates marketing. Plus, perfection isn’t the goal; consistent testing, learning, and showing up authentically is what builds lasting connections.
3. Influence 2.0: Building Long-Term Creator Relationships (Milly, Head of Marketing)
The panel on Influence 2.0 emphasised that creators now seek organic, long-term partnerships rather than one-off campaigns. For brands starting or working with limited budgets, the advice was clear: do your homework on creators, understand their style, and propose content ideas that align with their voice. Martyn Odell, aka Lagom Chef, summed it up perfectly: “Just start. Be a mate, not a wanker.”
4. Social Impact Must Be Core, Not an Afterthought (Panel & Lisa, Patagonia)
A standout message was that social impact should be woven into the DNA of a brand, not just funded as a marketing line item. Lisa from Patagonia reminded us that authentic purpose-driven work comes from culture, not budgets. Listening deeply to your community and centring their needs over pure business goals is essential for meaningful brand impact.
5. Thinking Fast + Slow Social (Michael Corcoran, Keynote)
Michael Corcoran’s keynote challenged brands to always ask “why” before acting on social media. Without a clear why, brands risk losing clarity and consistency. He introduced the concept of fast and slow content: fast content grabs quick attention through emotion and intuition, while slow content builds long-term brand equity through deliberate, logical storytelling. Meor embraces this balance to create campaigns that both engage instantly and endure.
6. Staying True vs. Chasing the Crowd (Luke, Social Media Manager)
A hot topic was whether brands should stick to their core audience or adapt to broader fan bases. This tension between authenticity and expansion is one every brand faces in 2026. Another insight was the importance of brands “looking outside the inside” – stepping back from daily operations with fresh eyes to explore new opportunities, or directions of travel with the aim of future-proofing your brand.
7. Embrace Your Unique Journey and Purpose (Johnnie, Digital Project Lead)
Speakers like Richard Sutcliffe from Passenger and Lisa Douglas from Patagonia reminded us that there is no one-size-fits-all formula for success. Every brand’s journey is unique, and staying true to your purpose is what sustains you. When business becomes solely about money, it loses its soul. Purpose-driven brands, like those we champion at Meor, attract success naturally.
Final Thoughts
Visiting the 2026 Out of Office Conference confirmed what we already believe: the brands that win are built on authenticity, community and real purpose, not just clever campaigns. We’re taking these ideas straight into our work.
