Lightwood

Lightwood
Where Culture Meets Community

Overview

Some projects feel a little more personal than others.

We’ve worked with siblings Kate and James De Seta for many years, helping to shape the brands behind a number of much-loved independent stores across West Cornwall. So, when they came to us with plans for their latest venture, it already felt familiar.

The brief was an interesting one.

Lightwood needed to sit comfortably alongside an already established brand while carving out an identity of its own. It needed to feel contemporary, but not trend-led. Refined, but never intimidating. Confident, without shouting.

We started by looking beyond traditional retail references.

Instead, we explored a collection of fashion, editorial and lifestyle brands that build communities around storytelling and shared experiences. Brands like Late Checkout in Madrid, Highsnobiety’s Not In Milan project and Reception Clothing all became reference points. What they all had in common wasn’t their aesthetic; it was their ability to create a world people wanted to be part of.

That thinking became the foundation for everything that followed.

We explored several creative directions, from softer, more playful routes to concepts inspired by classic calligraphy. But one direction kept pulling us back in.

Big and bold.

Strong typography, confident layouts and a visual identity that felt clean, modern and instantly recognisable.

With the name already in place, we focused on creating a brand that reflected Kate and James themselves. Warm. Approachable. Effortlessly stylish.

One of the most important decisions was knowing when to step back.

The products needed to remain the focal point, so the visual language was deliberately restrained. A simple wordmark, a carefully considered colour palette and the use of the classic typeface Minion Pro introduced a sense of refinement, while allowing the carefully curated collections to take centre stage.

From packaging to point-of-sale materials, every touchpoint was designed to feel cohesive while creating a natural relationship between Lightwood and the wider family of brands.

The result is a brand that feels exactly like the store itself: considered, welcoming and quietly confident.

And, as with all good independent retailers, this is only the beginning.

Watch this space.

"From early initial concepts, right through to complete brand launches, we've always felt Meor have enabled us get our ideas out there."
