The Good Stuff: August Edition

The Good Stuff: August Edition

There’s always something making its way around the Meor office.

A new record someone’s had on repeat. A restaurant worth travelling for. A great piece of design. A swim before the workday starts. A weekend spent camping, dancing, hiking or generally gallivanting.

So, we thought we’d start sharing some of it.

The Good Stuff is our new monthly series, bringing together a few of the things the Meor team have been listening to, watching, reading, visiting and generally enjoying lately. No big agenda. Just good stuff we think is worth knowing about.

For our first edition, there’s plenty to get stuck into.

Nik has been tuning into Benji B’s weekly late-night show on BBC Radio 1, usually catching up on BBC Sounds at the weekend rather than listening live. A recent episode from 19 August celebrates some of the brilliant live broadcasts recorded at Maida Vale Studios over the years, with a seriously good selection of artists and performances.

For Nicole, it’s time to swap the desk for the Dolomites. She’s picked out her top five hikes, perfect for anyone planning an adventure among some of Europe’s most spectacular mountains.

Ollie’s recommendation is a little closer to home. He’s part of the team behind Magic Wall Radio, a Cornwall-based radio station, and on 5th September they’re bringing artists, listeners and friends together for a free summer party at Newquay Orchard.

Luke has gone straight to the record collection with David Byrne’s Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. An album he keeps coming back to when creating digital work that needs a little more feeling, with Strange Overtones, Life Is Long and Home among his standout tracks.

Molly’s been making the most of summer at Henry’s Campsite on the Lizard – a few days of live music, animal watching and cooking on a camping stove. Naturally, there was a bacon sandwich involved.

Daisy has been following food-focused creative Amy Brett (@thehungryhobbit), whose content manages to make food and everyday life feel warm, creative and effortlessly fun.

India’s pick is Morgans in Falmouth, where she’s been particularly enjoying the current exhibition, including Charlotte Trounce’s joyful cow paintings. A good excuse to spend an afternoon wandering around Falmouth.

Johnnie’s recommendation requires slightly less planning: a lunchtime swim at Crab Rock. Just a short walk from the office, it’s become a favourite spot for a quick dip, a clear head and a reminder that we’re pretty lucky to work where we do.

And finally, Milly has been enjoying one of the newest additions to St Ives: Kiln. Saunas, ocean views, cold plunges and, apparently, plenty of oranges. Sounds like a pretty good way to spend an afternoon to us.

So that’s the first instalment of The Good Stuff. A few things we’re listening to, looking at, eating, exploring and enjoying – with hopefully plenty more to come next month.

See you then.
